regify Account Issues

Why do I need to sign up a regify account in order to receive regimails, regipay or regibox invitations?

Because we want to offer the decrypted content/invitation only to the addressee. Every regimail/regipay/regibox message id registered to one or more dedicated addressee e-mail address(es). Thus, we need to make sure that the person who opens a regify message is the addressee. We only know about the person if he registered a regify account. Imagine we would not verify the account, either noone or all people would be able to open the message/invitation. Both is not the intention of secure communication.

Additionally, an e-mail address is only to be registered once in the regify ecosystem worldwide. In other words, if it is registered, noone else is able to register it a second time at any regify provider. Thus, a registered e-mail address is more secure against fraud as it is impossible to impersonate someone else.

Do I need multiple regify accounts to use multiple regify products?

No, every person only needs to sign up a regify account once. If you like to use other regify products (eg regibox), please contact your regify provider. You will find the contact information in the footer of the regify provider portal.

I changed my regify account password. Why do I need to re-enter it in the clients?

The regify account is handled in the web portal of your regify provider. Your local installed software logs in to the regify provider each time it wants to send or open a regify message. Upon this, the local installed software needs to know the new password. Otherwise, the regify provider does not know if you are the right person. Thus, you also need to update the password in all local installed software. This also allows you to ban any thieves they may have stolen your device. Simply change the password of your regify account and they no longer can read any regify messages on your device. Hint: Quickly change your e-mail account passwords, too.

The system tells me that I already registered a regify account?

An e-mail address is to be registered for regify only once at a time - worldwide. You cannot register the same e-mail address for multiple regify accounts at a time. If you like to register an e-mail address again, you need to terminate any previous assignment to regify.

If you do not know where you are registered, you can simply use one of these two options to find out where you are registered:

If you still know your regify account credentials (e-mail address and password).
Please try login to any regify provider (eg regify provider for private accounts). If your password was correct, it will tell you that you are wrong here and it offers you a button to forward you to the regify provider you initially signed up to.

If you don't know your regify account credentials anymore.
Please go to any regify provider (eg regify provider for private accounts) and click the "Forgot your password?" or "Lost password?" link. Fill in the e-mail address and solve the captcha. After you did, you will get a password reset e-mail from the regify provider you have signed up to. Follow the instructions to get a new password. Now you can login and use the account at this regify provider. If you like to register somewhere else, please go to "My account" -> "Settings" -> "Delete my account" in order to cancel the account. Upon this, the e-mail address is free to get registered somewhere else.

Why don't you send the password directly in the e-mail?

Some people complain that the registration process is somehow cumbersome. The password is only shown after clicking the activation link in the activation e-mail and, depending on the regify provider, it is needed to enter a code received by SMS (mobile text message). Please understand that an ordinary e-mail is like a postcard. Everybody that handles the message is able to read the content: your e-mail provider, the e-mail server administrators and possibly any other party accessing the cables...

Showing the password in the web-browser with online-banking grade encryption is much more secure and respects your privacy. And, together with SMS, you can even fight people who are clever enough to intercept your e-mails and click on the contained link for you.

Consider what happens if we don't protect you like this: Every computer magazine would call us the most insecure system...
