Thunderbird troubleshooting

Problem

Since upgrading to Thunderbird V8, the regify AddIn is no longer appearing.

Solution

The guys from Thunderbird invented a new security feature that deactivates new AddIns by default: TB8 release note (open the tab What's New in Thunderbird).
This feature disables the regify AddIn by default and sadly we have no way to prevent this. In order to activate the regify AddIn, you need to open the extra menu, select Add-Ons, switch to Extensions and activate the regify Extension. After that, you may need to restart Thunderbird to let the regify AddIn appear.

Problem

Instead of opening the file using regify, Thunderbird starts the Text-Editor of your system.

Solution

This occurs only with regify-mails that have been sent using the web-portal (Portal Version pre V2.8.0) or the Lotus Notes AddIn.
Quick Fix:
  1. Search a regify-message that has been sent using the regify Client, Outlook AddIn, Thunderbird AddIn or with a Webmailer newer than V2.7.5.
  2. Double-Click the regify-attachment. The Thunderbird open-dialog offers you to open using regify client. Now, please check the option to "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" and press "OK".
Upon this, every regify-file (even the ones that made problems before) will open using regify-client.
Background information: the webmailer and Notes AddIn set the mime-type of the attachment to application/octet-stream. This induces Thunderbird to use the system text-editor instead of the regify-client. Outlook and some other clients are not affected. The newer version are setting mime-type to application/vnd.regify. This forces all applications to use the system-default.

Problem

Using Thunderbird 11:
  1. After creation of a regify-Mail, the window stays open and no rgf file is attached.
  2. After creation of a regify-Mail, the message is sent, but no rgf file is attached.

Solution

We currently do not support Thunderbird 11. Since Mozilla decided to upgrade the major version every 6 weeks, it is impossible for us to follow that far. As most versions run fine without any changes, we decided to state a compatibility up to version 20. But there is the risk of a new version which is not working (like TB 11). The only option we have is to state compatibility exactly to the most recent tested version (currently V10). But this will lead to an outdated and definitely not working version for all further versions. As we do not deliver a new regify-client every 6 weeks, this would be outdated very often. Maybe we have to stop supporting newer Thunderbird versions, if Mozilla is not finding a way to support developers in an appropriate way.
Please stay at V10 until we released a new version which is compatible with V11 (or revert to V10).
